Venosa, an ancient Roman colony and city of Aglianico wine

4 (1 review)

An immersion in the heart of Basilicata, on the slopes of an extinct volcano, the Vulture, around which the region’s best-known vine grows luxuriantly: Aglianico. The tour starts from Venosa, a delightful center with an ancient history. An important Roman colony, the citadel was an important Norman outpost in the 11th and 12th centuries. The visit includes the archaeological park, where traces of the Roman baths are still evident, the mammoth Incompiuta, up to the sixteenth-century castle of Pirro del Balzo. From Venosa we then move to a nearby winery to visit the vineyards and taste three labels of the delicious Alianico del Vulture. We will discover the phases of the harvest, the history of the company, and we will appreciate this full-bodied wine.
